This blog is based in Victoria, Australia. Currently, there are two main types of public transport tickets in use. Myki is used in Melbourne for trains, trams, and buses and out to the regional cities of Geelong, Ballarat, Seymour, Bendigo, and Traralgon. Paper tickets are used on long-distance regional trains further afield than those regional cities and on regional coaches. If you travel to a location where a paper ticket is required, it is sometimes more expensive to purchase a paper ticket for the entire journey, than what you would pay if you used myki for the portion of the trip where myki is valid. There are also other anomalies in the fare structure, where touching off and on again mid-journey can save a lot of money. Through this blog, I aim to help the traveling public save money.
